Day Small Mesh Hay Net

This is NOT the common hay net found in larger stores - this net is much more durable! The day net is made of high-quality, UV-treated nylon, DuPont® fiber. It's an excellent always have hay source for the day, with a capacity of up to 30 pounds of hay!

New Customers: 1 ¾” is the most popular mesh size for ponies and full sized equines. The 1 ¼” is the most popular mesh size for miniature equines. Just ¼” can make a significant difference between a content or frustrated individual. Smaller mesh sizes do not necessarily equate to your equine eating slower; they may not be able to eat at all or become destructive.

Options for Mounting & Hanging the Day Small Mesh Hay Net

For shod or barefoot horses:
  • Hung (if your horse is shod hang them high enough so the horse cannot paw at it).
  • Clipped inside a trough secured to a post or wall (tall enough to prevent a shod hoof being placed inside it).
For barefoot horses only:
  • Attached at ground level
  • Loose on the ground
Please noteDue to the dangers involved in using any mesh material that can potentially get caught in a horseshoe, this product should not be used on the ground by shod livestock. We do not recommend use with horned animals or horses with blankets or halters that can potentially become snared in netting.

Encourage Movement with Multiple Feeding Locations

While we promote slow fed free choice hay; one feeding location does not encourage movement. Mobility promotes gut motility and overall mental and physical health. You can encourage movement by offering additional feeding stations - despite the size of an enclosure. Add Standard Hay Pillows or Mini Hay Pillows and/or a small or large bale net (for barefoot horses) or multiple Hanging Hay Pillows or Day Nets hung for shod horses to encourage movement!

Standard Hay Pillow; a convenient solution to encourage movement despite the size of enclosure!

Hanging & Mounting Tips for Over Eager Eaters

The best method for hanging your Day Net for voracious (over eager) eaters is to suspend it. Hang from a tree limb (away from the trunk) or rafters in the stall. Slide a piece of PVC pipe over the rope to avoid entanglement and attach a swivel clip at the bottom. If there is nothing solid behind the net, they can't push on it to grate their teeth across the netting. This also makes it more challenging.
