New Customers: 1 ¼” is the most popular mesh size; the vast majority will be able to extract hay and slow them down considerably. It can be too challenging for some which is why we offer the 1 3/4”. Smaller mesh sizes do not necessarily equate to your equine eating slower; they may not be able to eat at all.

The Standard Hay Pillow® Slow Feeder Hay Bag is offered in a variety of mesh sizes 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/4" and 1-3/4".  The difference between the 3/4" 21 twine and the 3/4" 30 twine is the 21 twine feeds a bit faster.

The Standard Hay Pillow® is constructed from the most rugged materials; 1000 denier nylon Cordura®, YKK® zipper and custom nylon (DuPont®) knotted netting. All made with American materials manufactured in the USA. Our unique closures provide ease of loading and ensure hay is only accessed through the netting. The solid back dramatically reduces wasted hay and is ideal in windy weather. Order yours TODAY!

The Standard Hay Pillow or Standard Hay Pillow II is the best choice for voracious eaters. They cannot tug or pull on it as it is not attached to anything when used on the ground.

Due to the dangers involved in using any mesh material that can potentially get caught in a horses’ shoe, The Standard or Mini Hay Pillow are not recommended on the ground for use by shod horses. Extreme caution should be used.

07/26/2012 Cassandra B. customer I want to compliment you on an outstanding product. We're fighting the hay net wars right now. Within a week of starting on slow feeding nets, my two crafty mares were emptying everything but double nets within a few hours. I dislike the tearing motion they used with hanging nets. They can empty other 1 inch nets with only a few hours' concerted work.

They adapted right away to Hay Pillows. I have one 1-inch pillow and one 3/4 pillow. The Hay Pillows are easy to fill, easy to transport, and slow to feed. After loading a variety of other slow feeding hay nets, I discovered that I am allergic to hay and chaff that floats around when I tear up flakes. The long zippered opening allows me to fill and carry the Hay Pillow with much less contact with hay and chaff.

The craftiest mare learned right away how to put one hoof on her pillow to pull out the hay. I can adjust the degree of difficulty by tethering or not tethering and by putting the hay in as flakes without fluffing it up. They spend happy hours feeding in a normal position, head down, looking like they're grazing. Great product!

07/22/2012 Linda . Customer I ordered 2, one for each of my horses. It took them a few days to figure out that the pillow is now their hay source! Once they figured that out, they now know how to turn them over when the mesh side gets flipped to the down side. They do paw at them to get to the hay when it gets low. It's by trial and error for them, but I stayed with them (or at least watching from my window) to be sure they wouldn't get too frustrated. If I saw their efforts to get at the hay were unsuccessful too many times, I went to help. It's now been about 4 days and when they see the pillows come out they race to see who gets the first one! I'm very happy with the pillows as they make the hay last over several hours. They used to gobble it in just about 30 minutes and then stand there bored for another several hours 'til fed again. My neighbor's dog chewed one of the pillows, so I've ordered a replacement because I think they are worth it!
